In Dan's Words: This is a W2 steel blade. It has a long riccasso so the user can place their index finger closer to the blade. The riccasso has filing to add some feel when using the knife with the index finger hugging the riccasso  The tang is hidden but it is wide and extends to within an inch or less of the handle. The spacers are black phenolic pieces glued up and pressed with alternating maple pieces. (I was into making long bows at one time and since I had these bow laminations decided to make a bunch of pieces for knife handles - a bow hunter would probably recognize them). This ebony is the most stable ebony that highly resists checking. I suggest using black shoe polish on the handle to keep it in good shape. Black shoe polish is a mix of wax and mineral oil and works great on these really hard woods. Ebony is at the top of the scale for wood hardness. This is Gaboon Ebony (the best in my opinion).
